The Answer Was Never In The Doing
I built this whole thing standing on the wrong side of a pane of glass.
My six month old was propped on a pillow in a daycare room, alone, because every room in the place was too busy to hold her. I stood there looking through the glass, and something in me went very quiet and very certain at once. There had to be another way. So I built it.
Here is where the story usually turns triumphant. It does not. Because I built the other way the only way I knew. By doing more. By getting it right. By becoming someone who could hold everything so well that no one would ever again be too busy to hold what mattered to me.
You have probably been calling that drive ambition. Or discipline. Or just being the responsible one. It was none of those. It was a survival strategy wearing a very convincing costume.
What you learned, and where
You learned to never stop somewhere. Not because you are broken. You learned it in a season where stopping was not safe, where if you put it down, the whole thing came down with it.
So you took the role of the one who holds everything, and you were good at it. You became the person everyone counts on, the one who does everything right.
I was that person too. Years after the daycare glass, I was doing everything right by every measure I had. The protocols. The fasting. The best professionals in every room. My body shut down anyway. In 2020 I was twelve hours from death, having done everything correctly.
The cost nobody prices in
The strategy works. That is the trap. The overfunctioning, the fixing, the getting it right, all of it works for a long time, right up until it stops. And because it worked for so long, when the exhaustion finally comes, you reach for the only tool you trust. You push harder.
Straight into the one part of you that was never underperforming.
When you are running on empty, more discipline will never be the answer, because your effort is aimed at the one thing that is not failing. The part of you that never stops is not the problem. It is the most loyal thing you own.
The cost is years of your best effort pointed at the wrong target, filed each time as evidence that the problem must be you.
Where it actually turned
It did not turn when I found a better protocol. It turned twelve hours from death, on my knees, having a long conversation with God. The message was clear. It's your energy.
That is why I do not tell you to push harder. I already know where that road ends, because I walked all the way down it.
The pattern that got you here is not damage to be healed. It is loyalty to be thanked, and updated. It kept the world standing through a season that has since ended. The strategy outlived the emergency it was built for, and now it runs a life it was never designed for.
You do not fight loyalty. You thank what kept you safe. You update what it became. And only then do you come back to who was already there.
The ground
Today my family of six live full-time aboard NUSA, our fifty-two foot sailing catamaran. Out here there is no built-in safety. Nobody hands it to you. You author it, or it is not there.
That is what sovereignty actually looks like. Not the absence of risk. The authorship of your own safety, from the inside, on purpose.
The pattern was never broken. It was loyal. And loyalty can be updated.
I love you, Angie x
P.S. Remember, Abundance is your Baseline.
